Stripped down to their elementary lines, Mondrian pinned down his native windmills to the canvas — Stripes, color blocks, structure and harmony, define his vision of modernity.
The dutch painter, stirred by the cubists, turned for his part to age old symbols of continuity to break with the past. With the belief that for the modern artist abstraction in an emotion of beauty, he set out to paints an utopia of forms, brimming with potential.
Mondrian finds in the composition of lines and color, constructed with awareness, but not with calculation, a rhythm unobscured by the object, to come as close as possible to the truth and impose a new man’s vision independent and freed from time and space.
