Young Hare and Great Piece of Turf are perhaps the most emblematic works of the German artist. As a key figure of the early Renaissance, Dürer sought to be fundamentally modern.
Through his numerous journeys, he learned and developed outstanding technical abilities that, combined with a deliberately artless eye, rendered him famous in the whole of Europe.
His watercolour paintings pulsate with life — Dürer, who believed that Love and delight are better teachers than compulsion, sought the beauty in the mundane. In his atelier, where science and labor merged, he set out to reconstruct pieces of nature to tear out the divine from our world in timeless representations.
