"In the joy of a sunny day, imperceptible ideas materialise softly" - August Macke

Through his paintings, August Macke wished to pass on to others the mirth that illuminated him from within. His art is characterized by a triumphing sense of elation, his fervor for living visible in the choice of rich and bright tones and colours influenced by Matisse. Unlike his German contemporaries, Macke turned his interest inward — the intimate sphere of his home and family reflecting the warmth and existential joy that animated him.

Rebuking Kandinsky's spiritualism 'A tabletop has more mystery than all of his paintings combined!' he poured all his enchantment and hopes into vivid images picturing the kaleidoscopical vehemence of his heart. Macke died at only 27 with the outbreak of the war, leaving behind his budding art as a memento of the shades of brightness and optimism that existed before the prolonged trench warfare set in.
